Getting Started
Before we get to installing Minecraft on Chromebook, let’s discuss the installation of Linux. Most guides online will briefly explain how to run Minecraft on Chromebook using Linux, but they’ll skip all the hardest parts.
If you want to learn the whole process, you’re in the right place. Installing Linux on a Chromebook isn’t too difficult. You need to enable the developer mode, and then install the Linux Distro using Crouton.
Installing Minecraft Education Edition on Chromebook
Minecraft offers an Education Edition which is available for download on Windows, Mac, iPad and Chromebook. It promotes game-based learning among students, offering features like collaboration on projects with classmates in the multiplayer mode, teaching tools to support educators, learning content and curriculum guides across subjects and much more. However, since the game is available on the Play Store as an Android app, you would have to contact your school administrator to enable Google Play from their side.
Installing Minecraft: Java Edition on a Chromebook
First and foremost, you’re going to need a Chromebook that supports Linux applications. You can find the Linux setting under the Developers tab of your Chromebook’s settings menu. How To Install Minecraft: Education Edition on Chromebooks?
Here’s how you can install the game on your Chromebook (issued by schools).
Step 01: Ask the administrator to turn on Google Play Store support on your Chromebook. You can go to the Google Play Store >> Settings >> Google Play Store >> Turn ON.
