Can you dog fight in Flight Simulator?

After its lengthy delay to stay synced up with the theatrical release of Top Gun: Maverick, the free Top Gun: Maverick DLC for Microsoft Flight Simulator is out now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Embrace Your Inner Maverick

If you have ever dreamed of knowing what it feels like to engage in an exhilarating WWII-style dogfight or conquer the skies in a genuine fighter plane like Maverick and Goose, Air Combat USA is here to make that dream a reality. At Air Combat USA, you can live out your fantasy of taking the controls and flying authentic fighter aircraft in a one-on-one dogfighting scenario, no experience necessary. Take to the skies in an SIAI Marchetti SF-260 sitting side-by-side with one of our extremely qualified instructors, soaring to altitudes of up to 7,000 feet over scenic Long Beach, CA.

There is no better time than now, to see for yourself what being in a real fighter jet feels like. With the upcoming film Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise June 26th 2020 , it could be a wonderful reminder of your in-air experience to watch this highly anticipated film.

Feel the need, the need for speed

There are two elements to Top Gun. Flying the best and dogfighting the best. The Top Gun Maverick DLC will focus on the former. It is Microsoft Flight Simulator after all. I highly doubt there will be any actual dogfighting in the game.

You can look forward to soaring through canyons (something I’ve always wanted to do) and trying to land your very expensive piece of machinery on an aircraft carrier (something I’ve always failed at doing in video games ). We doubt landing on an aircraft carrier will be as difficult as the infamous between-level scene in the Top Gun NES game, however. You can also look forward to just soaring through clouds and over the sea, taking in the game’s stunning visuals.

How Do I Prepare?

Preparation for the flight is easy. Basically, be yourself! While there is information provided to help familiarize yourself with the tasks/strategies at hand; no major studying is required. We have people occasionally just walk in the door and sign up to fly. (I don’t recommend a huge meal just before flying.) Although you can’t fly in sandals, most people just wear tennis shoes. Lightweight, comfortable clothing works nearly year-round, as you will be provided a flight suit to wear. Customers need to be mature enough to operate a parachute, of size to fit in the cockpit, and able to comfortably get in and out of the aircraft without assistance. I once flew with someone celebrating his 90th birthday from him!

The most difficult aspect of the flight is trying to contain that smile on your face! You WILL enjoy this experience immensely! Our instructor corps covets these Advanced Air Combat missions, and look forward to them all week long. If instructing these types of missions gets us all pumped up, imagine how much you will enjoy participating! While we will provide an opponent if you schedule just for yourself, many find that the ultimate fun level is experienced when you fly combat against a loved one…be it a longtime friend, sibling, spouse, son, or daughter. Some great rivalries have shown up here (including a family of six: Dad, his four sons, and daughter-in-law to be). And of course, this is far more exciting than shooting paintballs at each other for a corporate outing! So, grab your favorite person (target), schedule an Advanced Air Combat Mission (AACM) ride, and show up for the time of your life! We also do aerobatic only rides as well for “conscientious objectors” who would prefer not to turn another human into “simulated” Swiss cheese.
