The feature is now available on Windows 8 tablets running an Intel Core i5 quad-core processor and graphics cards with an AMD HD 7000 or higher, as well as an Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 or up. Using Steam In-Home Streaming, any laptop computer can now become a full-fledged gaming machine, whether it is an old notebook with a mediocre graphic card, a Linux or OS X machine, or a Windows 8 tablet. Follow the steps below to download Steam on a Windows PC & Laptop:
- Open a browser on your PC and navigate to https://steampowered.com
- ) Select Install Steam.
- Choose Install Steam with the Windows icon.
- Save the Steam setup file to your computer.
- Open the Steam setup file and go through the installation process.

Setting Up and Installing Steam
Creating a Steam account is the first stage you’ll need to complete to be able to use this gaming platform.
- You can register for a free Steam account at the Steam website. Provide an email address for your account and confirm your country of residence. Steam pricing varies by location, and you’ll only be able to buy games from the Steam Store for your country. You’ll also need to confirm that you’re aged 13 years or older to be able to register. Stop Your Antivirus or Firewall for a Retest
If you’re using an Antivirus or firewall software, that may be causing the issue. Check to see if your firewall or antivirus program may have updated itself behind the scenes and be interfering with Steam. Stop the antivirus first and retry. Then stop the firewall and retry that. If Steam works, it’s the security software interfering. If nothing changes, move on.
Steam usually plays nicely with VPNs but not always. When I first installed mine, Steam just would not work. I think it had to do with the fact I had logged in for years in one location and suddenly logged in somewhere else. Maybe it’s a security feature, maybe it isn’t. Either way, if you run a VPN, or have installed a new one, turn it off for a minute and retry.

You can search for new games and software from the Steam Library management option in the top left corner. Here you’ll see many elements on your screen, including a search bar and a column on the left side that’ll have several sections.
