We have tried in training to repeatedly tell pilots that the maintenance on their aircraft are the key to safety, step one. No matter what a great pilot you are and how well you know the systems of the aircraft if you do not use a mechanic or service facility that knows your airplane like it was their life on the line you have a severe weakness in the operation of your aircraft.
We look at the Beechcraft Baron twin engine aircraft as well as the Twin Cessna line and we constantly push that if that service facility has not “lived and breathed” that particular aircraft then you are shorting yourself on safety. We Consistently see aircraft that have had not just mistakes in operation procedures but egregious problems that are going to get people hurt due to maintenance. If you had to have heart surgery you would not use a general practitioner to work on your heart. These large twin engine aircraft are just as complicated. They have “quirks” that only a facility who is devoted to these aircraft know how to maintain them These high end shops know how to find problems before the problems occur. These shops are well aware of the AD’s and service bulletins as they have been involved in these aircraft for years. They know to look where others don’t. It is the old story that the more you deal with something the better you become.
License Proficiency Test and Operators Proficiency Test
To fly an airliner legally, pilots must keep their license up to date. To do this, they must complete both the License Proficiency Test, or LPC, and the Operators Proficiency Test, or OPC.
As a result, every six months all airline pilots are required to undertake two days of training and testing in a flight simulator to ensure that their normal and non-normal operation capabilities are up to standard.
They Are Safe
One of the main advantages of flight simulators is that they provide the safest way for pilots to train. Even if students practice flying with a certified flight instructor, they’ll be safer when on the ground than they are thousands of feet in the air. With this in mind, simulators allow students to learn and experiment with different aircraft controls and flight methods safely. They don’t need to worry about damaging the aircraft or making detrimental mistakes, which may risk their lives.
Cadets aren’t the only ones who can benefit from using a flight simulator. Even more seasoned pilots can use the simulator to improve their flying skills safely and become more proficient in unique flying situations before experiencing them in real life.
Why Is Autoland Not Used?
There are a few reasons why autoland is not used more frequently. The first reason is that it is expensive. The second reason is that it requires a high degree of maintenance. The third reason is that it is not as reliable as other systems.
