Superior Air has joined EASA’s campaign against unruly passengers: “Not on my Flight: Zero tolerance against unruly passengers”
Every 3 hours the safety of a flight within the EU is threatened by passengers demonstrating unruly or disruptive behavior. At least 70% of these incidents involve some form of aggression. These incidents have a direct impact on both the safety of crew and of passengers. Any kind of unruly or disruptive behavior whether related to intoxication, aggression or other factors introduces an unnecessary risk to the normal operation of a flight.
Technology to Prevent Tragedy?
According to the FAA, John F. Kennedy International Airport (KJFK) is equipped with technology to help avoid potential aircraft and vehicle conflicts. The Airport Surface Detection System—Model X (ASDE-X) alerts controllers to potential runway conflicts by providing detailed coverage of movement on runways and taxiways of aircraft and ground vehicles on the airport movement area, as well as aircraft flying on final approach to the airport.
For many in the aviation world, the January 13 event brought to mind the airline disaster at what is now Tenerife North-Ciudad de la Laguna Airport (GCXO), in the Canary Islands, on March 27, 1977, when two Boeing 747s collided on a runway in heavy fog. The collision killed 583 people. Both airlines—KLM Flight 4805 and Pan American World Airways Flight 1736—had been scheduled to depart from Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. However, a terrorist bombing there earlier in the day diverted all aircraft to the then Los Rodeos Airport on the island of Tenerife.
The Diamond DA40
The Diamond DA40 is a newer plane. It’s a 4-seat, mass-produced trainer. One of the first things you’ll notice on the Diamond DA40 is the glass cockpit. The low wing design gives pilots and passengers a better view of the sky above them. While the Cessna 172 and Piper PA-28 are made of metal, the DA40 is engineered from composite materials. These materials make the plane much lighter and more fuel-efficient. Students training in a DA40 will be more prepared for modern avionics than those training in older Cessnas and Pipers.
